12 Ways to Increase Your Resilience: Mental and Psychological Preparation

Getting Started

Most people in the world are NOT resilient. They get depressed quickly, they play the victim role, and they don't believe that anything will ever change. If you want to be strong like a lion, you need to become mentally and psychologically prepared for life's difficulties. The earlier you realize this vital truth, the better off your resilience will be!

The preparation is, as we said above, mainly mental and psychological but not only.
Start by asking yourself these questions:
- What are you doing to become stronger? Many times we are unaware if we ARE doing things to become stronger. Write down in a piece of paper the things you do, and you know they benefit you the most in getting more inner strength
- How can you prepare for the next time life throws a fiery dart at your heart? Are you proactive, or do you wait for things to go wrong and then do something about it? In other words, do you learn from your lessons, or you repeat the same attitudes, hoping things will be different?

- Do you need more patience or faith in God? Do you feel you lack confidence in yourself, your life, or generally something bigger than you, the person?

To increase your resilience naturally

...we recommend that you start by taking some time to evaluate all these questions and begin to answer them.

Mental preparation is the first part of resilience, but it does not end there. You also need to be prepared in other aspects (like physical and emotional preparation), or you will find that your resilience will go down even more than before when faced with a new problem if you realize you are too weak for all these multiple demands.
What is it about life's difficulties that scare or stress you? Are you afraid of physical consequences? Are you afraid you will be physically hurt or damaged in any way? Is it emotional? For example, you cannot handle the emotion of stress and fear? Is it mental? Does your inner dialogue make you crazy? Where do the roots of your lack of resilience lie? Again, it would be best if you answered all these questions to clarify which part of your being suffers the most.

It would help if you built strength

...in all of your levels to sustain you during the days of adversity. It is going to be a beautiful journey that can be life-changing, depending on your attitude.
It is sad, but in this age where the world is so fast-paced, it has become almost customary to be afraid of change. The only way you can develop resilience in your life, which will make a massive difference in how things go for you, is by constantly changing and adapting to every new challenge that comes your way. That's right: never remain the same, but you have to grow and evolve.

It doesn't matter what you do for a living. You can still become resilient, and it is up to your values and principles how this process will look like. If resilience has been something that was not very important to you in the past, but now the circumstances have changed, then start working on yourself, so you don't get end up in a downward spiral.

The path to resilience is not an easy one,

...and it can be hard at times. But you will find that the more effort you put in today, the easier your life will become tomorrow. You have to keep going no matter what happens around you or how difficult it may get. And if there are setbacks (trust me: there are going to be many) and you give up, then all the work will have been for nothing.

How to Prepare:
1. Strengthen your body with physical exercise.
2. Improve your relationships with loved ones by asking them how they are doing and learn more to listen to them rather than telling them your opinion
3. Make sure you eat healthy food that fills you up (think in terms of quality and quantity here, meaning do not overeat and eat food that you feel are "alive" and have nutrients in them)
4. Make your house a home that you want to be in.
5. Find something in life that brings you joy.
6. Express your emotions and find a way to release the suppressed ones (in our school, we teach a method of psycho-energetic empowerment that helps a lot in doing precisely this.)
7. Create a purpose or project around some of the things that bring you joy. This will bring you the motivation to develop resilience
8. Surround yourself with people who treat you well and make an effort to help build resilience in your life;
9. Find purpose outside of work by looking for volunteer opportunities.
10. Take care of your mental health through self-compassion and meditative practices or shamanic techniques.
11. Learn about your mental health by reading on the subject
12. Find a Mentor to guide you to deeper levels and Self Mastery

Final Words:

It is necessary to have resilience in order to create and live a more prosperous life. This means that you should not only prepare yourself in your mind but also willing and able to ACT in your own best interest for the sake of BUILDING resilience on the way as well.

This will take courage, so try one step at a time. The first thing you need to do is change how you look at things and take care of your mental health. It's important to have resilience in life, not just for when it gets hard but also as a means of living a more prosperous life that will make you happy!
