Continues from part 1
Self-awareness: The first and the last step in embracing your authentic self is self-awareness. You must always take the time to reflect on your values, desires, and passions. What makes your heart sing? What are you truly passionate about? How would you like your life to be ultimately?
Accepting imperfections: Another biggie! Embrace your imperfections and vulnerabilities. It is maybe the toughest thing for many people, I know. Authenticity though doesn't demand perfection; it demands honesty and self-love. Recognize that your unique flaws are what make you human and relatable. Realize that there are no perfect beings. Same goes for you.
Pursuing your passion: Identify your passion and take the necessary action steps to pursue it. Whether it's a career change, a creative endeavor, a spiritual or a personal goal, you have to follow your heart's calling.
Overcoming fear: Fear of failure, rejection, or criticism can be extremely challenging barriers on the path to authenticity. It's crucial to confront these fears, destroy the barriers and achieve moving forward in spite of them.
Surrounding yourself with support: Seek the support of friends, family, or mentors who understand the importance of living authentically. Their encouragement can make a really huge difference in your journey.
Living Your Life Authentically
Embracing your authentic self is, as they say, a journey, not a destination. It is an ongoing process of self-discovery, growth, and self-expression. Here are some tips to help you live your life authentically:
Trust yourself: Learn to trust your instincts and intuition. For this you need to learn to take responsibility for your life (which also may be one of the toughest or even THE toughest of all challenges) because the truth of it all is that you intrinsically know yourself better than anyone else and you have to arrive to the recognition of who you are.
Set boundaries: Establish boundaries to protect your time, energy, and well-being. It's okay to say no to what does not align with your destination and path.
Continual self-reflection: We have said this before but you must regularly assess your life to ensure it aligns with your authentic self. If you find that you're straying off course, take steps to realign with your true desires. This is truly imperative to not forget as time passes.
Self-compassion: Be kind to yourself on this journey. Self-compassion allows you to acknowledge your mistakes and setbacks without self-criticism and self condemnation.
Steve Jobs' words remind us that life is finite, and time is our most precious resource. To squander it living someone else's life is to miss the opportunity for a fulfilling and meaningful journey on this earth.
Embracing your authentic self requires courage. It is true that self-awareness, and a willingness to take risks are not qualities that we have learned in our childhood and school education. It may not always be the easy path, but it is the path that will lead to the most meaningful and rewarding life you can imagine. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life; instead, make every moment count by being true to yourself and walking the path to your destination!
